10,000 Steps Challenge
Participate in Shine’s 10,000 Steps Challenge – Register by October 21 October 24 – November 4
Walking is something
we do every day. Did you know ParticipACTION suggests healthy adults take at least 10,000 steps a day? However, the average adult only takes 5,000. In order to get the
recommended 10,000, Shine is asking you a very important question... Can You Commit to Walking 10,000 Steps
a Day for Two Weeks? If you are up for the challenge or want to challenge a classmate you have choices for
how you’d like to get involved. - Register as an individual to compete for the individual prize
- Register
as a team to compete for the team prize
- Register as an individual and as a team member and the chance to win both
prizes
Challenge Period: October 24 – November 4 - $10 for Students –
Submitted at time of registration (exact change) Your registration fee includes a pedometer to keep track
of your daily steps and to keep after the challenge is over.
- Registration Deadline: October 21
- Print out the registration form: Student Registration Form
- Drop off your completed registration form to a Cashier in the Office of the Registrar (Main Building, Main Floor)
Details: - Upon registering, a 10,000 Steps Challenge Record Form will
be provided to you to record your daily steps.
- Participants record their steps taken each day using the honour system.
- Each participant records their own steps even if you are part of a team be sure to note your team name on your
10,000 Steps Challenge Record Form, if applicable.
- Upon completion of the challenge, submit your 10,000 Steps Challenge
Record Form to a Cashier in the Office of the Registrar Main Floor, Edmonton Downtown Campus, Main Building by November
10.
- Steps can be counted from the minute you take your first step in the morning to your last step before
getting into bed at night.
Prizes: - Individual winner
Delegates half of the registration monies collected to the Shine fund/area of their choice NOTE:
Individuals who are part of a team are also eligible to become the individual winner based on their own independent performance
- Team winners
Delegates the other half of the registration monies collected to the
Shine fund/area of their choice
Winners will be announced on November 16 and will be provided
a list of possible Shine funds/areas to donate their monies to.
