The Students’ Association
of NorQuest College is established under The Post Secondary Learning Act to administer the affairs of the students
at NorQuest College. The PSLA gives the Students' Association of NorQuest College (SA) the legislated authority to set, assess
and collect membership fees. The fee amount is established annually through the proper legal procedures as outlined in the
bylaws of the Students' Association.
Students’
Council
Students’
Council is a group of 10 elected student members and the highest decision making body of the Students’ Association.
The students that are elected are the official voice of NorQuest Students and are focused of protecting the academic rights
of students.
Membership fee
As established in the Students’ Association bylaws, all full and part time credit students are assessed
a membership fee and are considered members of the Students’ Association.
Why do I pay a membership fee?
The
SA understands that with the ever-increasing cost of education, it is important to students to know what they are paying for
and where their money goes.
The SA is legislated through the post-secondary learning act to set, assess and collect membership
fees for the maintenance of your association.
What does being a member of the Students’ Association mean?
As a member of the Students’ Association you are able to run and vote in Students’ Council
elections and be a part of the student government in action. In addition to representation students also have access to all
of the services provided by the Students’ Association including but not limited to:
- Purchasing
discounted tickets
- Accessing emergency food
bank support
- Purchasing used computers
- Registering for the Helping Hands Campaign
- Contributing to the student newsletter
- Ability to be involved in SA awareness campaigns
- Access to contests and other free stuff
Why do distance
students pay the same fee if they are not on campus?
The Students’ Association
represents, and lobbies for all students regardless of their location or campus. Online and distance students can access many
of the services that are available to our on-campus students and we are always developing new services for students with specific
needs. Click here for a detailed list of benefits available for Distance Students. Where do my SA Membership dollars go?
The Students’ Association is a representative organization that provides advocacy
and support for NorQuest students. We exist to protect your academic rights, advocate on your behalf and provide support when
you need it. Through the Students’ Council we:
- Lobby municipal, provincial
and federal government bodies on all issues pertaining to students
- Advocate for students through a variety of College boards, committees and task groups at NorQuest
College.
- Provide representation for students
at the College's Board of Governors
- Provide
representation for students at the College’s Academic Council
- Provide guidance for academic appeals and grievances
- Provide emergency food bank assistance
How much
do I pay?
The SA membership fee is a flat fee of $50 per term for each full
or part-time student enrolled in a credit course at NorQuest College.
How can
I have a say in how the money is spent?
As a member of the Students’ Association you have the ability
to make recommendations about additional services that you would like to see offered to both on and off campus students. It
is our goal to make sure that NorQuest students have a voice. Students’ Council wants to hear how they can improve your
experience at NorQuest.
